Inhibition of CNS

There are 3 levels of CNS inhibition:

1. Sedation (Tranquilizers)
2. Hypnosis (SedatoHypnotics)
3. Anesthesia (Anesthetics, Inhalation Anesthetics)
4. Death (Euthanasia)

General anesthesia needs:

0. (Facultative): Premedication
   1. Sedation:
      1. Acepromazine (ACP)
      2. α2 Agonists
      3. Benzodiazepines (BDZ)
1. Loss of consciousness: Induction and Maintenance
   1. IV for Induction (+ Maintenance for TIVA):
      1. Ketamine / Tiletamine
      2. Propofol / Etomidate / Metomidate
      3. Pentobarbital
   2. Gas for Maintenance:
      1. Inhalation Anesthetics: Isoflurane, Sevoflurane
2. Muscle relaxation
   1. Peripheral Muscle Relaxants
3. Deep analgesia (Multimodal Analgesia)
   1. Opioids are used for this

Side effects: Deadly in case of overdose
4) Respiratory depression
5) Circulatory depression

Neuroleptanalgesia = Tranquilizers + Opioids = Superficial sleep with great pain killing
Safer but not as deep sleep

Ataranalgesia = Benzodiazepines (BDZ) + Ketamine
Safest but least deep sleep
Good for risk patients
