Antibacterial spectrum: 1st Generation Cephalosporins
Used in Small animals
Dose:
- 22 mg/kg 30-60 min before surgery
- For longer surgeries, repeat injections as long as the operation is going:
- Every 4h in case of risk of Gr+ bacteria infection
- Every 2h in case of risk of Gr- bacteria infection
- Risk of bacteria type depends on part of the body the surgery is occurring
- For longer surgeries, repeat injections as long as the operation is going:
Indication:
Perioperative Antimicrobial Prophylaxis (Prevention of infections in surgeries):
- Long surgeries (over 1h)
- Orthopedics: Bone and implants (against Osteomyelitis)
- Contaminated and dirty surgeries
