- Cefalexin: 1st choice in Dermatology (along with Amoxicillin-Clavulanic Acid), also used for Mastitis and soft tissue infections
- Cefadroxil: Off label
- Parenteral:
- Cefapirin: Intramammary infusion only
- Cefalonium: Intramammary infusion only
- Cefazoline: Perioperative Antimicrobial Prophylaxis
- Cefalotin: Off label
Gr+ (++++), Gr- (+)
Antibacterial spectrum: Similar to Penicillinase Stable Penicillins
- Most Gr+ bacteria: Including Streptococcus and Staphylococcus
- Some Gr- bacteria: Not against the β-Lactamase producing ones
Pharmacokinetics:
- Hydrophilic > No Liver metabolism
- Excreted by the Kidney in active form > Very good for UTI
- Oral or Parenteral
- Good absorption, Good distribution
Indication:
- Mostly against Gr+ Staphylococcus and Streptococcus infections:
- Mastitis, Dermatitis, Surgical Infections
