Ester type Local Anesthetics
Metabolized by plasma enzymes (Procainase)
Very hydrophilic: low Vd
Indication:
- Local Anesthetics
- Antibiotics: Benzylpenicillin-Procaine (Narrow Spectrum Penicillins) IM, SC allows for longer Antibiotics allow for delayed action (Depot injection)
- Is always added when we give Streptomycin
- Can also be given in combination with Rifampicin
Dose:
- Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis infection (Skin Infections Therapy)
- 22000 NE/kg BID IM
- Can be combined with Rifampicin
Adverse effects:
- Excitement and arrythmia in foals and piglets
- Lack of Procainase in their plasma enzymes
- Forbidden for race horses 2 weeks before the race (Doping)
